Mid-Week Fishing Report: Dec. 15 – 17, 2018 (2 ½ days)

Week end´s tally (2 ½ days):

Note: this 2 1/2 days report is to rush last weekend’s conditions to our incoming anglers.
Kabori fishery in Dry-Zone N.West – The Bundy group of 6 anglers arrived on Saturday  landing 288 peacock bass in just 2 1/2 days. Largest peacock bass weighed 16lbs. and best performing lures are propellers and top water lures. Last week the Hixon group with some keen fly-fishermen landed over 800 peacock bass the largest of which exceeded the 18lbs. mark. NOTEThe other 4 Floating-Suites camps are navigating to their future destinations after the Christmas recess, at the Jufaris, Itapara, Kabori fisheries, while subject to the programmed mid-season refresh and maintenance process (generators, motors, tackle, linens, etc.).

Water levels stabilized and slightly dropping in our fisheries in the Dry-Zone N.West.  All fisheries are expected to maintain good fishing conditions in the coming weeks.
Blue dots represent water level monitoring stations where levels are rising and yellow dots where levels are dropping. Our area of interest is between Barcelos and Caracarai.
Normal tropical rainstorms not implying any significant rainfall for the rest of the week expected at the Barcelos area.

Our area of interest forecast shows no significant rain episodes in the coming fortnight, thus the dropping water level tendency is expected to continue.  

Rainfall forecast for the trimester shows a mild El Niño impact in the area with a water level drop for the coming months.

Mid-Week Fishing Report: Dec. 08 – 10, 2018 (2 ½ days)

ALMOST IN OUR PROGRAMMED RECESS WITH ABSOLUTELY GREAT FISHING

Note: this 2 1/2 days report is to rush last weekend’s conditions to our incoming anglers.
Roçado private fishery in Dry-Zone N.West – Last week the Henry group ended the week with several trophies above the 20lbs. mark. Fishery is scheduled to rest for the next 3 weeks and Floating-suites and tackle will be refurbished and re-stocked. Water levels forecast makes us believe that this fishery will be presenting good fishing conditions for at least 4 or 5 weeks. Xeruini river in Dry-Zone N.West – The Hixon group of 7 anglers arrived on Saturday  landing 318 peacock bass in just 2 1/2 days. Largest peacock bass weighed 15lbs. and best performing lures are propellers and top water lures. Jufaris (upper and mid) in Dry-Zone N.West – Last Saturday the Chambers group of 6 anglers arrived to our single occupancy floating suites in the upper part of the river and had a great start with 236 landed peacock bass largest of which weighed 18lbs.The mid section of the river received the Barges da Costa group of 8 anglers landed 430 peacock bass in just 2 1/2 days the largest of which weighed 16lbs..

Water levels stabilized and slightly dropping in our fisheries in the Dry-Zone N.West.  The Jufaris and Xeruini  fisheries is expected to maintain good fishing conditions in the coming week.

Mid-Week Fishing Report: December 01 – 03, 2018 (2 ½ days).

STARTING DECEMBER WITH GREAT FISHING CONDITIONS !

Note: this 2 1/2 days report is to rush last weekend’s conditions to our incoming anglers.
Roçado private fishery in Dry-Zone N.West – The Henry group of 7 anglers arrived last weekend and had a slow start with 60 landed peacock bass, though camp reports that they are following a trophy oriented strategy focused on sizes more than quantities. They endured some rain episodes and the largest peacock bass weighed 19lbs. Fishing conditions are still good although water levels have risen a bit and more rain is expected on the coming days. . Xeruini river in Dry-Zone N.West – The Case group of 8 anglers arrived on Saturday  landing 318 peacock bass in just 2 1/2 days. Largest peacock bass weighed 15lbs. and best performing lures are propellers and top water lures. Jufaris (upper and mid) in Dry-Zone N.West – Last Saturday the Zucker group of 6 anglers arrived to our single occupancy floating suites in the upper part of the river enjoying a great start with 273 landed peacock bass largest of which weighed 17lbs, also come spectacular aruanas made the basket. On the mid section of the river the Roger group of 7 anglers landed 560 peacock bass in just 2 1/2 days enduring some heavy rain episodes also.

Water levels stabilized and slightly rising on the Negro River in  the Santa Isabel area, drainage of the Roçado (Tapurucuara – see graph below). Levels are stable in the Negro in the Barcelos area, drainage of the Jufaris and Xeruini which presents a lower level than the Jufaris. The Roçado (Dry-Zone S.West) fishery is expected to maintain good fishing conditions in the coming week, as well as the Jufaris and Xeruini fisheries in Dry-Zone N. West
NOTE the red line are 2018 water levels, the light blue strip is the 15 to 85% probability, the dotted line is the median and the yellow line is the historic 1980 minimum, which indicates that today´s  lower water levels should have occurred earlier 
 
Quarterly forecast for Dec. Jan, Feb. shows below normal rainfall expectations for Dry-Zone N. West and East, we are alert monitoring the dry-zones to determine the best available water levels for the rest of the season.

  Steady rain episodes are expected for the coming days, water levels might rise a bit (see above)  

Infography below depicts the rainfall forecast in the coming fortnight with respect to the historical mean showing some minor anomalies for the region affecting our private fisheries (see arrow). Table below shows the accumulated rainfall, for the Branco and Negro river basins showing no significant anomalies from the norm up to now.
